Devon to Scotland in a Mileo 201: 7 weeks, 2,460 miles

In March and April 2023 Mr and Mrs Fitzgerald travelled to Scotland to do the NC500 which allowed them to make a list of many locations they wanted to visit, fast forward to March 2024 and they have just completed their trip...

Back in March and April 2023 Mr and Mrs Fitzgerald travelled to Scotland to do the NC500, Mull of Kintyre and Isle of Skye taking them 6 weeks. They enjoyed the trip so much in their Benimar Mileo 201, which they found to be the perfect size to enable them to get to many locations they wanted to visit in the future.

Read below to fast forward to their recent trip from Devon to Scotland which took them a total of 7 weeks and 2,460 miles.

"This year in March 2024 we embarked on a 7 week tour covering 2,460 miles travelling from Devon to Scotland without any rushed agenda. We were able to visit the Black Isle on the East Coast near Inverness, then travelled across to the West Coast to complete the NC500 where we drove up the Bealach na Bà Pass to Applecross which was stunning. We then travelled to the Isle of Skye for our first ferry crossing from Uig to Tarbert, Isle of Harris travelling North to the Isle of Lewis for 2 nights then returning to Harris for 2 nights where we caught our next ferry to the Isle of Berneray to travel down through North Uist, Benbecula and on to South Uist for 1 night before catching the ferry from Eriskay to Barra where we spent 3 nights and also visited the Isle of Vatersay whilst there. Following our stay on Barra for 3 nights we then travelled up through South Uist to North Uist for our last nights stay on these beautiful Outer Hebridean Islands catching our 5th ferry to the Isle of Skye.

Our travels then took us south on the West Coast to Mallaig & Arisaig which enabled us to experience the train ride from Mallaig to Fort William over the Glenfinnan Viaduct as featured in the Harry Potter films, we then travelled south to Kilchoan boarding the ferry to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull with 4 nights which enabled us to circumnavigate the whole Island staying at various sites. We were able to travel as foot passengers to the Isles of Ulva and Iona.

We sailed from the Isle of Mull to Oban and travelled to Falkirk for an overnight stop to experience a boat trip on the Falkirk Wheel which joins the Union and Caledonian canals and then onto visit the magnificent Kelpies.

Our return trip on our way home to Devon enabled us to stop and visit:

Dunbar, Holy Island, Bamburgh, Seahouses & Beadnell Bay then on to Whitby & Robin Hoods Bay and lastly to Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales and the location for All Creatures Great and Small. After a lovely 3 night stay we then travelled south to our final stop over at the Malvern Hills.

In all we stayed at 26 sites and sailed on 8 vehicle ferry crossings in our Benimar Mileo 201. Our 7 week experience was absolutely fantastic being accompanied by our 2 working Cocker Spaniels who enjoy the comforts of our Benimar Mileo 201 just as much as we do and it was just unbelievable how the vehicle became our home for 7 weeks to allow us to live in comfort in all weather conditions, we were so sad when we reached the end of our journey and we could have just kept travelling and travelling. We are looking forward to planning our next trip to Scotland and travelling Islands that we have yet to cover including Orkney and the Shetland Isles.
