We have been caravanners since 1990 when our two children were around 9 and 7. The caravan was bought with a view to touring in both the UK and parts of Europe which we did for many years, from Scotland to Switzerland. As the family grew and spread their wings the caravan got smaller until the grandchildren came along and we reverted to a four berth and large awning once again . Now it's generally just the two of us as the extended family prefer camping and we felt the urge to travel further afield, New Zealand, Canada and Australia! Having been members of both the main clubs we were aware of the motorhome tours available, but a 'motorhome'! Nevertheless, if we wanted to tour New Zealand it was the only option - hence 2017 found us on a motorhome escorted tour of North and South islands of New Zealand. Two years later with friends we had made on the New Zealand trip, it was Canada in yet another motorhome. By now we were getting hooked on the motorhome and ddecided to sale the caravan and bought our first motorhome, a Swift C205 Compact - small enough to fit on the drive, an essential part of the plan. Four years after our Canada trip and after Covid it was Australia with the same friends, again a motorhome. We were really enjoying this and our motorhome at home again took us around the UK and into France, but there were limitations! Several friends had slightly larger motorhomes, one of which was the Benimar T483. This had everything we wanted and what was more, Marquis had one available! After completion of the usual paperwork we collected our new motorhome on 20th February 2024. Now the adventure begins! Hardly had the ink dried on the paperwork than we were off for a week in Suffolk followed immediately by a family event in Kent. March saw us in Bristol and Warwick, soon to be followed by another trip to Bristol were if not staying with family we use a local CL. May was just as busy, Cromer using another CL and then Hereford on yet another before June found us in Tavistock on a Camping and Caravan Site. The motorhome was giving us the freedom we wanted, the bikes came along as well giving us the opportunity to exercise as well. Yes, we need to plan shopping etc with more care to avoid taking the motorhome off site unnecessarily, it works for us! July was a trip to the New Forest followed a couple of weeks later by one to Cheshire before we headed for Belgium and France in early August. Usually we have travelled in France via Camping Municipals or larger sites, especially when we had the caravan. This year we varied it stopping at Aires's, France Passion, Municipals and a couple of larger sites including two weeks just north of the Pyrenees. It was a brilliant trip! We have travelled over 5500 miles since we exchanged the motorhome and have plans for more in the future.
